Summary

An order pausing virtually all external communications by HHS and its sub-agencies (issued Jan. 21-22, 2025) halted publication of the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report; at least two issues went unpublished, the first publication gap of any kind in roughly six decades. The freeze also delayed health advisories and data releases, and set the stage for content review under EO 14168 terminology rules. (See section 2 for the agency-policy dimension.)

Status

MMWR publication later resumed under new content constraints; the January 2025 gap remains in the publication record.
