Summary

The Center cancels the planned national tour of "Finn," a children's musical it had commissioned and premiered in November–December 2024 about a young shark who realizes he identifies more with gentler fish. The creators told reporters the work could be read as a metaphor for the LGBTQ+ experience and said the cancellation expressed bias against a theme of love and acceptance. A Kennedy Center spokesperson called it "a purely financial decision." Actors' Equity Association called the cancellation "beyond appalling." The cancellation came the day after the show received a Helen Hayes nomination.
