Summary
EO 14253 directed the removal of "improper ideology" from Smithsonian museums, education, research centers, and the National Zoo, and specifically directed that the planned American Women's History Museum celebrate women and "not recognize men as women in any respect" — an explicit exclusion of transgender women from a federal museum's subject matter. It placed Vice President Vance at the center of content review and conditioned Smithsonian funding on compliance. (See also sections 1, 12.)
Status
In effect; implemented through 2025-2026 content reviews culminating in the July 2026 White House report and signage order (see 2026-07 items).
