Summary

Immediately after President Trump's public confrontation with Governor Janet Mills (Feb. 21, 2025), OCR opened a directed investigation into the Maine DOE for allowing transgender girls to compete in girls' interscholastic sports under the Maine Human Rights Act. HHS OCR opened a parallel investigation the same week and issued its own violation finding March 17, 2025 (see section 2).
