Summary

After President Trump publicly threatened to withhold federal funding from California over a transgender girl's participation in the CIF State Track and Field Championships, CIF announced within roughly 24 hours a "pilot entry process" under which any "biological female" student-athlete who would have earned the next qualifying mark received an additional entry, and a follow-up medal/podium protocol duplicating awards. CIF did not exclude the transgender athlete but restructured entries and scoring around her participation.

Status

The pilot entry and scoring approach was later reinstated for subsequent championships. CIF separately refused, in July 2025, to sign OCR's proposed Title IX resolution agreement (below).
