SUPPLEMENT: THE KENNEDY CENTER TAKEOVER IS ABSENT FROM THE CULTURAL-INSTITUTIONS RECORD, THOUGH THE SMITHSONIAN, NEA, NEH, IMLS, AND NPS ACTIONS ARE ALL COVERED

Summary

The Center announces that the 2026 Honors will be branded the "Trump Kennedy Center Honors" and will be staged at a smaller off-site venue because of the planned closure for renovation. The rebranding of the honors program follows the December 2025 attempt to rebrand the institution itself; the statutory name of the Center was unaffected by either action.

Status

Announced. As of August 21, 2026, no 2026 honorees had been publicly announced in sources located; the 2025 class had been announced on August 13, 2025, so an announcement in this window may be imminent. The underlying closure was blocked in May 2026 (see 2026-05-29), leaving the venue question unsettled.
