SUPPLEMENT: STATE DEPARTMENT: THE LGBTQI+ HUMAN-RIGHTS OFFICE STRUCTURE AND THE REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT PATHWAY — PLUS PRESIDENTIAL DETERMINATIONS AS A MISSING INSTRUMENT TYPE

Summary

Within hours of the inauguration the State Department removed the official profiles of Jessica Stern (Special Envoy to Advance the Human Rights of LGBTQI+ Persons) and Desiree Cormier Smith (Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice) from state.gov. The Department did not respond to press inquiries about the removals. The substantive LGBTQI+ foreign-policy landing page ("Advancing the Human Rights of LGBTQI+ Persons Around the World"), which hosted the 2022, 2023 and 2024 interagency progress reports on the February 4, 2021 Presidential Memorandum, survives only in the frozen 2021-2025.state.gov archive.
