Summary
The SIT's inaugural directed investigation targeted Washington State's education agency (OSPI) for requiring districts to adopt gender-inclusive schools policies under state law - trans girls' sports participation, facility access, and non-disclosure of gender identity to parents - alleging Title IX, FERPA, and PPRA violations. The complaint channel was a group of Eastern Washington districts that OSPI had itself found out of compliance with the state's Gender-Inclusive Schools law, making the federal investigation an intervention on the districts' side of an intra-state dispute.
