SUPPLEMENT: NIH'S SEXUAL AND GENDER MINORITY RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE WAS DISMANTLED — DISTINCT FROM THE GRANT TERMINATIONS THE INDEX ALREADY COVERS

Summary

Two advisory and coordinating bodies supported the SGM portfolio: the trans-NIH Sexual & Gender Minority Research Coordinating Committee (SGM RCC), created after the 2011 IOM report to "[f]acilitate and coordinate collaborations and other activities related to SGM health research across the NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices" and to advise on implementation of the SGM strategic plan; and the Council of Councils Sexual and Gender Minority Research Working Group (SGM RWG), created in summer 2016, with "[n]o less than five members, selected by the Director of DPCPSI," three-year terms, co-chairs including the SGMRO Director, and a charge to meet at least annually and advise on DPCPSI's SGM-related activities. What is established: their NIH-hosted pages went down with the SGMRO site on January 22, 2025; the volunteer reconstruction of those pages notes that "member rosters have been omitted" in light of administrative and political changes; the SGMRO Director co-chair position has been vacant since the office was emptied; the parent Council of Councils has continued to meet, with Federal Register notices of meetings and charter renewals through August 10, 2026 and a meeting noticed for September 10–11, 2026; and no Federal Register document since January 20, 2025 contains the phrase "gender minority," so no SGM working-group item appears in any noticed agenda. What is not established is any formal charter termination or disbandment action for either body (see Unverified leads).

Status

Dormant in practice; formal charter status unconfirmed. DPCPSI's own pages for both bodies were not publicly retrievable during this review (HTTP 403 to automated requests), so their current content could not be inspected.
