Summary
Under a joint stipulation filed December 29, 2025 and ordered January 6, 2026 in APHA v. NIH, NIH agreed to consider a list of more than 5,000 funding applications that had been paused or rejected under the vacated directives, using ordinary scientific peer review without applying the challenged executive directives. On December 29, 2025, NIH issued 528 grant decisions, including 499 approvals. This was the principal 2026 mechanism restoring the application pipeline for gender- and sexuality-related health research; on January 28, 2026 the court terminated the government's motion to dismiss, and the case continues.
