Summary

The FTC served compulsory civil investigative demands on the three principal medical organizations behind transgender clinical guidelines, seeking up to a decade of internal records, communications, financials, and conference materials concerning "Pediatric Gender Dysphoria Treatment" — puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery for minors — to probe allegedly false or unsubstantiated efficacy/safety representations. All three sued in D.D.C. (AAP and Endocrine Society Feb. 17, 2026; WPATH Feb. 18, 2026) alleging First Amendment retaliation; the FTC denied their administrative petitions to quash. (See also sections 2, 10.)

Status

Investigations preliminarily enjoined: on May 7, 2026 Chief Judge Boasberg (D.D.C.) granted preliminary injunctions to WPATH (No. 1:26-cv-00532) and the Endocrine Society (No. 1:26-cv-00512), finding likely First Amendment retaliation; the FTC withdrew its demand as to AAP, which withdrew its injunction motion July 1, 2026 (No. 1:26-cv-00508, Judge Cooper). All three cases pending.
