Summary

A federal judge ordered the restoration of national park signage and interpretive materials on climate, slavery, Indigenous, and LGBTQ history that had been removed under the administration's directives to purge "improper ideology" from park sites — a partial judicial reversal of the historical-content erasure that began with the February 2025 Stonewall webpage edits. (See sections 8 and 10.)

Status

The district court (D. Mass., Judge Angel Kelley) granted a preliminary injunction/stay on June 12, 2026, requiring restoration; on July 2, 2026 the First Circuit (No. 26-1714) granted the government's motion to stay that order pending appeal, so as of August 20, 2026 the challenged removals were not required to be reversed. The appeal remains pending (briefing schedule set August 17, 2026; opening brief due September 28, 2026).
