Summary

The Center drops "A Peacock Among Pigeons: Celebrating 50 Years of Pride," a National Symphony Orchestra program with the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, D.C. scheduled for May 21, 2025 as the opening event of the Center's WorldPride "Tapestry of Pride" week. An NSO spokesperson attributed the decision to "financial and scheduling factors"; the concert was first described as postponed and then cancelled. Michael Feinstein, who had been invited to conduct, perform, and speak at the program, later called the cancellation "government-sanctioned censorship and silencing of creativity" based on sexual orientation.

Status

Cancelled; not rescheduled. The Gay Men's Chorus subsequently performed at a senators' rented Pride event at the Center in June 2025 (see 2025-06-23).
