Summary
One day after EO 14201, the NCAA replaced its 2022 sport-by-sport transgender participation policy with a rule limiting competition on women's teams to student-athletes assigned female at birth, effective immediately and applicable regardless of prior eligibility determinations. Athletes assigned male at birth may practice with women's teams and receive associated benefits (medical care, strength training) but may not compete. NCAA President Charlie Baker tied the change to the need for a single national standard following the executive order.
Status
In effect. Reinforced by the Supreme Court's June 30, 2026 decisions in Little v. Hecox and West Virginia v. B.P.J. upholding state birth-sex eligibility laws (see section 10).
