HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 6020
By Committee on Federal and State Affairs
3-23
A RESOLUTION urging the United States Congress to adopt Senate
Joint Resolution 13, proposing an amendment to the Constitution of
the United States relative to marriage.
WHEREAS, Marriage between one man and one woman provides the
most stable and nurturing environment for the rearing and education of
children, which is essential to the well-being of the nation, and same-sex
marriage erodes the institution of marriage; and
WHEREAS, The People of the State of Kansas have clearly voiced
their support of traditional marriage through adoption of an amendment
to the Kansas Constitution; and
WHEREAS, The Full Faith and Credit clause of the United States
Constitution requires states to recognize marriages performed in other
states; and
WHEREAS, An amendment to the federal constitution defining mar-
riage as the union between a man and a woman would prevent this state
from being required to recognize a same-sex marriage performed in an-
other state: Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Kan-
sas:
That the Congress of the United States is urged to adopt and submit
to the states for ratification the constitutional amendment proposed by
Senator Brownback in Senate Joint Resolution 13; and
Be it further resolved:
That the Clerk of the House is directed to send
an enrolled copy of this resolution to each member of the Kansas Con-
gressional Delegation.
