DIGEST
Present law provides that if a marriage is valid in another state, it shall be valid in Louisiana,
unless it is against the strong public policy of this state.
Present law further provides that a purported marriage between persons of the same sex
violates strong public policy of the state of Louisiana and such a marriage contracted in
another state shall not be recognized in this state for any purpose.
Proposed law retains present law and further provides that a civil union, domestic partnership,
or similar relationship violates the strong public policy of the state and, therefore, provides
that such relationships which are valid in another state shall not be recognized in this state for
any purpose.
