AN ACT to amend the civil rights law, in relation to prohibiting certain
professional sporting competitions or events in New York state
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1 Section 1. Short title. This act shall be known and may be cited as
2 the "equal playing field act".
3 S 2. The civil rights law is amended by adding a new section 79-n to
4 read as follows:
5 S 79-N. PROFESSIONAL SPORTING COMPETITIONS OR EVENTS. NO PROFESSIONAL
6 SPORTING COMPETITION, CONTEST OR EVENT SHALL BE PERMITTED IN NEW YORK
7 STATE THAT IS SPONSORED OR SANCTIONED BY AN ORGANIZATION OR SPORTS
8 GOVERNING BODY WHERE IN THE YEAR PRIOR TO SUCH NEW YORK STATE COMPETI-
9 TION, CONTEST OR EVENT ANY OTHER PROFESSIONAL SPORTING COMPETITION,
10 CONTEST OR EVENT SPONSORED OR SANCTIONED BY SUCH ORGANIZATION OR SPORTS
11 GOVERNING BODY EXCLUDED PLAYERS OR TEAMS BASED ON RACE, RELIGION, SEXUAL
12 ORIENTATION, ETHNICITY, CITIZENSHIP OR NATIONAL ORIGIN.
13 S 3. This act shall take effect October 1, 2010.
