Summary

DOJ and ED announced a joint Title IX Special Investigations Team (SIT) of investigators and attorneys from both agencies to fast-track the "staggering volume" of Title IX complaints arising from "gender ideology in school programs and activities" and to prepare cases for "ultimate DOJ enforcement." Early directed investigations included the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (opened April 30, 2025) and the California Community College Athletic Association's transgender-participation policy. The SIT pipeline produced the referrals underlying DOJ's Title IX suits against Maine, California, and Minnesota. (See also section 5.)
