Sources

Verification note. Topline PDF retrieved and text-extracted; the school gender-instruction item and its party breaks are transcribed directly. FRAME NOTE: this fielding used the probability-based KnowledgePanel and reports a true margin of sampling error. Reuters/Ipsos migrated from opt-in river sampling to KnowledgePanel between the December 2023 and January 2024 fieldings of this same item, so the trend line crosses a mode boundary at that point and pre/post comparisons are not clean.

Figures below are transcribed from these documents. Where they disagree with the source, the source governs.

whether sex, sexuality and gender identity should be taught in grades 1-8

How much do you agree or disagree with the following statements?

How much do you agree or disagree with the following statements? - Issues related to sex, sexuality and gender identity should be taught in public schools, grades 1-8.

Agree 32%52% Disagree

Wording notes: grade band 1-8 spans six-year-olds to fourteen-year-olds, treated as one undifferentiated policy | bundles sex, sexuality and gender identity into a single stimulus | asks about instruction, not about how trans students themselves are treated - a distinction the public debate often collapses

double_barreled — Three distinct subject matters are fused, across an eight-year developmental range. NPR/Ipsos in 2022 showed the age split is decisive - 46% supported teaching middle and high schoolers about sexual orientation and gender identity - so this item's steady 50-56% disagreement cannot be read as opposition to gender-identity content as such. Its value is as a fixed-wording trend line, not as a measure of any specific policy.
