Sources
Verification note. The 50.2 percent favour / 35.1 percent opposed figures come from the Freedom Indiana summary of the IndyStar/Ball State poll. The archived Freedom Indiana page (Wayback capture 20220121163411, confirmed to exist via the archive.org availability API) could not be opened end to end because web.archive.org returned HTTP 429 to every content request in this session, so those two numbers rest on search-result text rather than a fully fetched page. The 'nearly seven in 10' figure comes from the Northwest Indiana Times article, which was fetched and ROT47-decoded in this session. No PSRAI topline or Ball State Bowen Center report was located: bsu.edu returns 404 for every Bowen Center / Hoosier Survey path tried, and the Wayback CDX API returned nothing usable. Field dates, sample size, margin of error and population base are undisclosed everywhere retrievable; only December 2015 is documented. Wording for both items is a news paraphrase. A third reported item - 54 percent saying it is more important to prevent discrimination against LGBT Hoosiers than to accommodate business owners claiming a religious objection - is not recorded as a question because as reported it does not name gender identity or transgender people.
Figures below are transcribed from these documents. Where they disagree with the source, the source governs.
expanding Indiana civil rights law to cover sexual orientation and gender identity
[Paraphrase from news write-up; instrument not published] Do you favor or oppose expanding the state civil rights law to include sexual orientation and gender identity?
Wording reconstructed from: Paraphrase from the Freedom Indiana summary of the IndyStar/Ball State poll: '50.2 percent of Hoosiers were in favor of expanding the state civil rights law to include sexual orientation and gender identity, while 35.1 percent were opposed.' Instrument not retrievable.
Wording notes: uses the abstract phrase 'civil rights' | exact wording not published
unclear — Instrument never published. The contrast the pollster itself drew between this abstract framing and the itemised framing in q2 is the analytically interesting feature, but neither exact wording is available.
