Sources

Verification note. Wording and figures read from YouGov's published 2020 data tables PDF, in which each item's 2020 crosstab row is printed beside the previous item's answer labels and the label numbers carry the December 2018 comparison. The mapping used here was validated against YouGov's own write-up of this wave (e.g. 55% say trans women should not take part in women's sporting events; 47% vs 26% on refuges; 63% vs 16% on doctor's approval; 47% vs 28% on making legal gender change easier) and against the independently extracted 2018 tables. Second wave of the four-wave series.

Figures below are transcribed from these documents. Where they disagree with the source, the source governs.

making the Gender Recognition Certificate process easier

Currently transgender people who wish to change their legal gender on official documents (e.g. birth certificate, passport) have to apply for a Gender Recognition Certificate. This requires someone to have a diagnosis of gender dysphoria from a doctor, provide evidence they have lived in their new gender for at least two years, and make a declaration they intend to live in their new gender for the rest of their life. The application is then approved or rejected by a panel of legal and medical professionals.

In principle, do you think it should or should not be made easier for transgender people to change their legal gender?
